The Big annual competition, Narborough Trout & Coarse Lakes Big Fish Day took place Saturday, October 20th. There were 28 competitors in all, between them competing for three prizes in each of two categories, Biggest Trout and heaviest Aggregate Weight.

This year the competition was confined to Willow and Ashford, both having been deepened and with extra swims added. We were very fortunate to be blessed with good weather and good sportsmanship, not that the latter is by any means unusual.

A draw determined which lake the competitors started on, before breaking for lunch and then moving over to the second lake. As is so often the case, the catches tailed off in the afternoon, even though we used the lunch break to put a few extra’s in.

At the end the winners were:

First:

Second:

Third:

Biggest Trout

Denny Hawes (18lb 3oz)

Chris Wolfe (17lb 2oz)

S Winser (16lb 10oz)

Aggregate weight

John Trow (48lb)

Peter Stern (45lb 12oz)

Austin Kersey (38lb)

In addition, a special presentation was made to Jack Trow who not only celebrated his 15th birthday as the only junior competing with the “big boys” but also managed to put his proud grandfather in the shade with a Rainbow Trout weighing 9lbs 10oz.

Our thanks to everyone for making it a great day.

Next year………
